Paediatric Oral Wellness Check and Hygiene Visits

Visits to the dentist can be daunting for children, especially first-timers, our clinic features a special kids' play area and a friendly team to make them feel comfortable. Dental hygiene visits are vital; Dr. Nicole uses specialised tools to remove plaque and tartar from hard-to-reach areas, while also teaching effective brushing and flossing techniques to maintain your child's oral health.

Paediatric oral wellness checks are crucial for early identification of potential issues, helping to prevent significant problems down the line. During these checks, Dr. Nicole assesses your child’s overall oral health, including checking for tooth decay, tongue/lip ties, early bite issues, and addresses any concerns you may have. We aim to keep your child’s smile bright and healthy.

Sedation & General Anaesthesia

We always prioritise the most conservative treatment options for your child whenever possible. However, there are instances when sedation may be necessary to ensure your child's dental procedures are performed safely and comfortably.

One common and very safe method we use is inhalational sedation with laughing gas (nitrous oxide), which effectively reduces anxiety during dental treatments. While under this mild sedation, your child remains awake and responsive, allowing them to relax and experience a more comfortable treatment.

The other common mode of carrying out dental treatment in paediatric patients in a controlled setting is general anaesthesia (GA). This is where Dr Nicole works closely with a paediatric anaesthetist to ensure a smooth procedure for your child. In this way, since your child is asleep and stable during the entire dental rehabilitation process, all necessary and ideal procedures can be carried out quickly and safely in a single sitting.

This is especially useful for very anxious/phobic children who need much extensive dental work done, without them having any recollection nor potentially traumatic experiences. The suitability of nitrous oxide sedation and GA is evaluated on an individual basis and will be discussed during your consultation if considered necessary.
